Iron chefs,

This Saturday we are having our annual Holiday expo.  I am attaching a flier for you. There is going to be pitchers with Santa, many holiday food ideas, cookie decorating for the kids, and much more. For any of you who have attended in the past this is a good time, and there is always great food to sample.

I have been getting request for alternative food ideas for Thanksgiving besides turkey.  A couple of alternative options are prime rib or how about some baby back ribs. There is a prime rib recipe on our website at www.ptaceksiga.com that you will enjoy. If you do go with a prime rib, make sure you have a digital thermometer to ensure you have the level of doneness you want.  We have them for sale in the meat dept, ask one of them boys to make sure you are getting the correct one. There is nothing quite like that feeling of bringing a beautiful prime rib to the table and you slice it only to find you cooked it to well done when you where shooting for medium.  Baby back ribs are easy to do as well and we can recommend what to use on them, and how long to cook them. Just ask Raph, Tom, or the bossman.

Movie quote this week:. “I was so lucky I was able to salvage this wood from a seaman’s chapel in Nantucket.” Win a free video rental with a correct answer. First 5 win.

Here is a link to a great holiday food magazine. We have hard copies of this available at the store, and you can also find a link for it on your website too. This is one of the best food magazines I have found and will keep you chefs busy for a while. Occasions magazine http://vimaxpublishing.net/mags/AFMHol09/

I need a little help for anyone with about 5 minutes on their hands in the next week or so. We just finished our IGA assessment, and we received scores high enough to place us as a 5 star retailer again. I have heard from IGA about our strengths and weaknesses, but now would like some feedback from you as well.  These are all confidential, so let me know the truth. Follow the link  to Iga feedback link http://www.igastore-feedback.com/. I thank you for your time and comments.

Iron Chefs,

Thanksgiving is around the corner and if you haven’t already started your turkey punch card, stop by and pick one up. You get a punch for every $5.00 spent, and can earn anywhere from 25%-100% off your Thanksgiving turkey. For you customers out there who want to equate that into price per lb, it is $0.00/lb-about $.49/lb. See card for full details. We are also taking orders for our double smoked hams, and prime ribs. Call Raph or Tom in the meat dept with any questions.

This week’s featured products is our handmade fruit baskets in the produce dept. We receive fruit deliveries 5 days per week, and have the freshest produce you will find. You can get personalized arrangements made with any combination of fruits you would like. You can even kick it up a notch and get some fresh flowers with it for that really special person. The arrangement is only limited to your imagination. If we sell it in this store, we can put it into a gift basket for you. I once gave Dad one for getting busted by the cops squealing the tires in the delivery van when I was 16. Sorry Dad.

Dinner and a movie Monday went very well, and we will be doing it every Monday. If you purchase any dinner in the deli on Mondays, you will receive a free video rental good for Monday. Guys, I know MNF is on, but sometimes you have to be Don Juan or Ralph Macchio and do a little romancing.

Guess this movie quote, and get: 1/2 a turkey punch card punched for free, first 3 win. “Why worry? Each one of us is wearing an unlicensed nuclear accelerator on his back.”

We are in full swing with our venison processing and I am attaching our flier for the sharpshooters in the crowd. For all the hunters getting sausage made, remember that you get only YOUR venison back. We DO NOT mix batches and every batch is handmade on site by either myself, Raph, or the bossman (Dad.) If you leave your deer on the hood of your car for a week to “season” it, please remember there is only soooo much garlic pepper you can use to fix the taste.

Iron Chefs,

Next Wed is Veterans day, and this is a day to honor all American military veterans. We are going to honor our military veterans by serving them a free dinner on Veterans Day. You have already done your part, not sit down and let us put a little food in your belly. Dinner will start at 4:00 PM, and go until 7:00.

Can’t say for sure or not if I sent an email last week, but feels like it has been a while since this has gone out.  I am attaching a file in regards to purchasing anything (not just groceries) locally. It is some food for thought in regards to how you strengthen a community, and help it grow. This is not just about Ptaceks IGA, this is about every restaurant/agent/dealership/antique/bar/bank/retailer/etc that is locally owned and operated that is dependent on support from the community it serves.  If there is anything we can do to help strengthen that, I will be all over it. There are some great search engines on yahoo, google, etc. for items locally sold that you are probably not aware of.  Give it a try.

We are bringing in more natural/wellness products, and if you have any suggestions or ideas at all, let me know. We have room for about 40 new products and want to get the best mix of items I can.

Dinner and a movie.  We are going to start doing “Dinner and a Movie Mondays.” If you purchase a dinner in the deli on Mondays, you get a free video rental good for a rental on Monday.  That’s what we call a win, win, win.

Please do not cheat and try to use it on a late fee or a different day of the week. Limit one per Monday. Normal late fees apply.

Movie quote of the week: “Tolbert, is that you? I’m hung over, my knees are killin’ me and If you’re going to pull this, at least you could’ve said you were from the Yankees.” Get this movie quote correct, and you win a $5.00 gift certificate. First 4 win.

Red bag pic comes to all the way from Appleton, WI. There was a group of 10 that traveled to Appleton, WI dressed as clowns for some reason and they decided to take a red bag and some pictures. Enjoy.

Weekly Update

Thursday, October 15th, 2009

Iron Chefs,

This coming Sunday, we will start our “20 Years on the Hill” Anniversary. In 1989 we relocated to our current location from the little antique mall shop downtown.  We will be kicking if off with a FREE Customer appreciation breakfast on Sunday the 18th from 6:30-10:00 AM. We will feature our own homemade breakfast sausage, Reser Hashbrowns, Crystal Farm Eggs, Schroeder OJ, homemade cinnamon rolls, coffee, and pancakes.  This is a “thank you” to all our loyal shoppers who have helped us keep the lights on for the last 20 years.

On Wednesday of next week we will be having a “one day sale” and this will feature our lowest prices of the year for the ad items. Check your ad for details, or visit www.ptaceksiga.com for a copy of the flier.

I need your help with our Salvation Army drop-off bins. We have seen a very large increase in the amount of items placed OUTSIDE the collection bins. Please please please do not leave anything next to the bins. The items get rained on/snowed on, and end up going straight to the garbage, not the needy, at the expense of the Salvation Army.  It also makes our parking lot an eyesore for many people.  Every second Saturday of the month the Salvation Army truck is in our parking lot at 10am and will stay until the truck is full, taking all items large and small, as well as breakable and electronic items that can’t go in the bins. Check out their website www.salvationarmyusa.org for an eligible item list and donation value.  Have a large item that you can’t load?  They will come to you. Call 612-332-5855 to arrange a pick up. This is a very good program and a win/win for individuals in need and individuals looking to get rid of items no longer needed.

Be one of the first 10 to get this movie quote correct, and you will win a free movie rental.

Orval: “Lets do some huntin!”
Preston: “Hunting? We aint huntin’ him, he’s huntin’ us”

We are in full swing of processing right now, and can handle anything you throw our way. If you do decide to bag one, and leave it on the hood of your car for bout two weeks to show everyone how great a hunter you are, please cut it yourself and let me know how it taste.  Deer cuts are still $75.00 if paid in cash with the coupon on this flier and the prices for smoked meats and fresh meats.

Congrats goes out to Ron Murphy on winning “Your Chillin, We’re Grillin” Sweepstakes. He is the proud owner of a top notch bbq party catered by Ptaceks IGA and featuring 20 Chairmans reserve steaks, 20 homemade brats, 20 1/3# burgers, and 20# homemade potato salad.  Get down to Cernohouse to purchase a car before Saturday and see if he will invite you along.

Iron chefs,

Huge game tonight and wish everyone luck with their respective teams. We have our competition smoker out front of our store right now with baby back and spare ribs, pork butts for pulled pork sandwiches, and mock tenders for shredded beef. All will be available hot in the deli tonight starting around
3:30-4:00, just in time for tailgating. We will also have homemade pizzas available in the deli.  We do not have cold beer available, but if you need anything else, we will have it ready for you.  I will be at the game wearing a Jarred Allen jersey and a packer hat, long story, and I didn’t even lose a bet.

We even have a red bag pic from Lambue field.

Go Pack
